The RCMP would like to confirm and clarify a couple of matters in relation to the incident at the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.
The individual arrested outside of the VIP section in B.C. Place was never in close proximity to the U.S. Vice President.
There is no indication that the individual had any intention to harm the Vice-President.

Security measures for the Paralympics are consistent with the scale of the Games. Approximately 750 RCMP officers and 500 Canadian Forces personnel will provide security for 11 competition and non-competition venues in Whistler and Vancouver.
VANCOUVER: Like maple syrup, beavers, and red mittens, the romantic vision of a Red-Serge clad Mountie in a broad-brimmed Stetson astride an imposing black horse is quintessentially Canadian.
RCMP Sgt. Herb Waye instead likes to volunteer his off-time with Right to Play, an organization that helps developing nations participate in sports.
